Maleea Acker - PhD Student Alumnus

I completed my PhD in Geography in 2021. My research centres around creative geographies, and specifically how conceptions of place are enriched by creative work, particularly in the realm of geopoetics. I am also a sessional lecturer in Geography and Canadian Studies at the University of Victoria. Additionally, I am the author of two books of poems, The Reflecting Pool and Air-Proof Green (Pedlar 2009, 2013), and a book of essays, Gardens Aflame: Garry Oak Meadows of BC's South Coast (New Star Books, 2012). I also write an environmental column for Focus Magazine and serve on The Malahat Review's non-fiction editorial board. I have lived and worked in Canada, the US, Spain and Mexico.
